Path to the Hills
Watlington Hill is one of the high points of the Chilterns. From the open chalk pasture you can see for miles across the Oxford plain and on a clear day see the dreaming spires themselves. Red Kites soar above snaking white tracks etched into the chalk hillside below. I’ve seen a pair of tiny Merlins hunting across the patchwork of words fields and hamlets. Glorious!
This is one of a series of paintings inspired by walks in nature reserves in and around the beautiful Chiltern Hills. The Chilterns are a crescent of chalk hills running primarily through Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The nature reserves protect ancient pastures that are home to rare species of flora and fauna.
